The Weepies are an indie pop-folk band fronted by singer-songwriters Deb Talan and Steve Tannen. Their music has been described as "subtly intoxicating folk-pop".

The two musicians, who were both active in separate singer-songwriter careers, met in 2001 at a show Tannen was playing at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They quickly found a deep musical bond and began playing together. The first Weepies CD "Happiness" was released at Club Passim on November 29, 2003. The duo sold more than 10,000 copies of their debut album, though they remained unsigned.

In May 2005, after a sold out show at The Living Room in NYC, The Weepies were approached by and quickly signed to Nettwerk Records. The band received mainstream attention with their second album, Say I Am You. In February 2006, the album reached #1 on iTunes list of most downloaded folk albums in eight countries. The single "World Spins Madly On" from that album hit #1 on iTunes' US folk chart songs. They were nominated for a Shortlist Music Prize by Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol. The band played 180 shows in 2006, including their first European Tour, where they played the Oxygen Festival, T in The Park, and The Hurricane Festival. In 2007, the band collaborated with Mandy Moore, playing and writing on her new album, Wild Hope.

The Weepies' recorded their next album in their 500 sq. foot rental house in Topanga, CA; Hideaway was released in April 2008 by Nettwerk Records. Hideaway marked The Weepies first entrance into the Billboard Top 200, charting at #31, and selling 14,000 copies in its first week.

The Weepies' fourth full-length album, Be My Thrill, was released in August 2010. Colbie Caillat sings back-up vocals on "I Was Made For Sunny Days." "Be My Thrill" topped the Top 200 Billboard Charts at #34. It remained #3 for Billboard's Top Folk albums for nine weeks.

Their 2010 "Be My Thrill" tour was a major success for the band, with 26 sold out shows across the US.
